Grape’s Games Shimmering Skies Set Championship- Streamed by Rules of Villainy!

Grape’s Games had its third set championship last week for the coveted Mirabel enchanted card and playmat. As the biggest store for Lorcana in the St Louis area we had a large crowd at the event starting with 36 players!  We had the added treat of having our event live streamed by the local Rules of Villainy Podcast team on their youtube channel. You can check out some of the exciting match ups play out here- https://www.youtube.com/live/S3TI4ERupII?si=AReo2o4ezrANrVmv . Andy and Vince did amazing commentary on the matches live during the event and had a good variety of deck choices to see play out!

We had a very diverse meta despite the Green/Steel Deck rising in popularity after it took first in the Las Vegas DLC. The only deck combination we did not see was Purple/Steel.  The most popular deck choices in order were Red/Blue, Green/Steel, and Purple/Yellow.

The big spice of the day was provided by league member Jimmy M with his Red/Steel location deck that people were not expecting! I don’t think folks even knew who Gustav was prior to the event!

Congratulations to our top 8 players! (Amir, Megan K, Justin W, Hunter R, Chance K, Nick D, Megan S, and Dylan B! )

You know the meta is strong when you see 5 different deck choices represented in the top 8. Before we get into the decklists here are some fun facts about our top 8. Three of our top 8 were top 64 players during the Chicago DLC (Justin, Hunter, Chance). 1 player also made top 16 with his deck in Vegas (Justin) . And we see two strong ladies (Megan K and Megan S) showing us the girl power! Let’s break down our top decks!

8th place - Megan K. This deck shows that Red/Purple will always be a consistent choice no matter how the meta shifts.

7th place- Amir. Amir’s version very much centers around combining the ice block with various cards and I saw that block of ice doing work for him all day!

6th Place- Chance K. We have the meta Green/Steel deck! Chance is a very good pilot of this deck. He went top 64 in Chicago DLC with the old Bucky version and has adopted the new version nicely!

5th place- Hunter R. Hunter is a very versatile player when it comes to Lorcana! I have seem him play AND top cut with 3 different decks at these set championships. But as we all know Aggro is a valid strategy and Hunter shows that even in a best of 2 format he can still get those wins on the draw making this a viable deck!

4th Place- Megan S. Our Purple/Green or as I like to call it the “Grapes Deck”! We see she opted for more of the tempo versus the aggro game without merforlks but instead included more disruption! And even added a legendary Anna for some spice!

3rd Place- Dylan B. Dylan with another Green/Steel Meta deck. Dylan very much believes and relies on having a strong set up in his matches!

2nd Place - Justin W. Justin is without a doubt the best Red/Blue player we have seen. He always seems to know what your moves are before you know them yourself and how to counter them. Big player to watch out for in the upcoming North American Championship!

1st Place- Nick H. Nick is an amazing pilot of this deck and was just the number 1 seed the whole day through. He loves playing Lorcana with his young daughter Lili who also played in the tournament as one of our youngest competitors.

Huge congratulations again to our finalists !

Shout out  to Eddie who won our Mirabel Loungefly Funko raffle!
